Der Traum vom Fliegen

These pages are about airships und airplanes.
Graf Zeppelin, the inventor of the airship Zeppelin named after him. He was a "never give up" person, although many
mistakes and failures as well as crashes blocked him, he always had his vision in his mind. The german business World
did not support him, many called him a crazy or lunatic person, but his perseverance finally gained the upperhand.
After a disaster where one of his airships crashed the german population collected money to support their loving "Graf".
In 1917 when Graf Zeppelin passed away, one of his earlier critics, a journalist, who was so fascinated by the "Graf",
Dr. Hugo Eckener took over the helm of the company.
Finally sucesses came to pass, trips around the World, across the oceans an to the poles were some of the achievements.
Mankind was inspired by all of this and passeger airships became popular in the early 1930's. Unfortunately the gas used was
inflammable, the USA had Helium, but this was not allowed for export. Thus disaster struck at Lakehurst in 1935 and the airship
burned under not known circumstances. This was the end for a long period.
Now several companies are reviving this method of using airships for cargo transportation and a construction plant is
already built near Berlin, Germany. The airships should be ready in the year 2001.
